Specialized facade services

Facade Design Development, Shop Drawings & Value Engineering

A successful facade starts with correct details. Even the best materials, if installed with wrong or incomplete details, lead to nothing but water leakage, cracking, rattling and costly upkeep.

At Namakaran Fakher Engineering Co., we take engineering and technical-office services seriously before any installation begins.

1Section 1 – Facade Design Development & Shop Drawings

These services are used on the projects we execute ourselves, and can also be offered as a standalone service to architects, consultants and main contractors.

  • Converting architectural drawings (Phase 1 and 2) into complete construction drawings (Shop Drawings)
  • Design of steel/aluminum substructures matched to the facade system (curtain wall, dry ceramic, HPL, composite, thermowood, exposed concrete, GFRC, etc.)
  • Detail design for: connection to the main structure, expansion and seismic joints, waterproofing of corners, roof edges, parapets and areas around openings, louver locations, sunshades and second skins
  • Defining profile spacing and section types based on wind load, facade weight and project conditions
  • Preparation of the material list (BOQ) and execution details the site crew can actually work with
  • Upon the client's request, preparation of As-Built drawings after installation is complete

2Section 2 – Material Consulting & Value Engineering

  • Analysis of the architectural design and facade volume
  • Review of budget, expected service life and the client's taste
  • Comparison of several scenarios: e.g. frameless curtain wall (SSG) vs spider glazing vs a glass-and-panel hybrid; or dry ceramic vs HPL vs composite
  • Proposing the optimal combination of systems and materials so that it matches the architect's concept visually, is technically sound and safe, and keeps the total cost reasonable and manageable
  • Delivery of a value engineering report covering: proposed options, pros and cons, a cost estimate for each option and the final recommendation of the Namakaran Fakher Engineering Co. team

Custom execution detail

A good shop drawing is a sheet the site worker can read without calling the technical office: where each panel goes, what its dimensions are and which detail it connects to.

Shop-drawing sheet detail — module, dimensioning and detail references

Part-by-part notes:

  • 1Modular facade grid — every panel numbered (A-1, A-2, …) so that on site and during loading each piece finds its correct place; without numbering, installation falls apart.
  • 2Chain dimension lines — horizontal module and floor height with explicit installation tolerances; 'approximate' dimensioning on site means ruined made-to-order panels.
  • 3Detail callouts — every special connection is referenced by letter and number to its detail sheet; repeated details are drawn once and referenced everywhere.
  • 4Standard title block — scale, date, sheet number and revision; revision control prevents 80% of site errors — never let the crew work from an old revision!

AI & analytical tools

  • Smart initial estimate of facade cost based on area, building use, project city and system type
  • Recommendation of a suitable system (e.g. stick or unitized curtain wall, type of dry ceramic cladding, type of HPL, etc.) based on budget, building height and climate
  • Simple simulation of the impact of a second skin, louvers and glazing type on daylight and building energy consumption (for double-skin facades and large projects)
