A curtain wall detail is a cross-section technical drawing that shows exactly how the aluminum profile, the glass, the gaskets, the fixings and the substructure connect at the critical points of the facade — the connection to the slab, the corners, the waterproofing zones and the roof edge. It is precisely these drawings that separate the real quality of a facade project from a 'simple installation'.
The architect needs details to control the design; the technical office needs them to prepare shop drawings; the main contractor needs them to control cost and take off quantities; and the client needs them to compare offers properly. Without details, many costs — such as the substructure, the waterproofing and the complete hardware — slip out of the estimate and turn into expensive change orders midway through the work.
